THINGS
TO DO

Gorge on the environment - but be careful out there, pretty things can sometimes be dangerous!

WALK SWIM SURF EAT RELAX

WALKS

Many of our tracks are closed dure to a combination of a pathogen that is killing our Kauri, and a succession of bad storms in Jan/Feb 2023 that caused many landslides. Please do not go around the fences, many of the slips are on the move still. It is Dangerous!

  • Maungaroa Lookout Track Situated on the left halfway along Glen Esk Rd. This moderately challenging track rises steeply to several stunning lookouts with panoramic views of Piha.

  • Byers Walk Situated at the very end of Glen Esk Road this flat easy loop track meanders beside the Piha stream. The sound of the stream trickling over the rocks, the birds and the wind in the trees is very soothing and pleasant. Take a wander, breathe deeply, listen to our Mother Earth, come home to yourself. Allow 40 mins

  • Kitekite Falls Track This walk takes you up a lot of stairs to the Spectacular falls where it is safe to swim.

  • Mercer Bay Loop Track At the very end of Te Ahuahu/Log Race Road. I prefer to go on the left side track to start with and go down the steep hill. That way you have beautiful views for the whole of the walk down to the Pou and lookout as well as on the way back along the western cliffs. Allow at least 90 mins for the loop. Or continue walking to Karekare along the Comans Track.

  • The Gap, Blowhole and Taitomo Island Accessible for a few hours either side of low tide, this is a beautiful area to explore. Head left from the southern end of the beach and keep going around the corner. This is a very dynamic area and will fill you with joy for life. Taitomo is owned by our local iwi (Tribe) Te Kawerau a Maki. They kindly allow the public to go there. Please be respectful to this sacred area.

  • Walk the beach North Piha beach at 2km one way makes for a delightful flat easy walk especially at low tide.

Dogs on a lead are permitted on the above tracks.
